The year of the Pecans.

Six and a half years ago when we first moved into this house I was very irritated by the neighbor's pecan trees. Every fall they would drop massive amounts of pecans on our yard, and terrible gobs of gunk would drop out of them onto our cars and stain them horribly. I still hate the way they stain the cars, but I must admit that I have come to love those trees.
I first started to love them three years ago when I first realized that I could pick up the pecans from off the yard and put them into my mouth (after shelling them first of course). They were the most delicious pecans ever, and I LOVE pecans! That year I gathered lot's of pecans and made pecan pie, pecan bars, pecan cookies, and added pecans to nearly everything else I ate. It was wonderful.
Unfortunately the last couple of years have been too dry for the poor trees and no pecans have dropped. This hasn't stopped the nasty car-staining stuff from dropping though. The good news is that with all the rain that we've had this summer the trees are back to their old selves again and there is a pecan explosion underway in my yard!
I am in full squirrel mode now, and I've got my family on nut-patrol as well. We snatch-up every pecan that dares fall on our side of the fence and we've even gone out hunting for more trees we can harvest from. One thing is for certain:
MORE PECANS = MORE HAPPINESS

This Morning I had to switch to our huge bowl, and it's already overflowing.

i am oh so very impressed that you actually do something with them. thinking about them makes me want warm brownies with pecans. Make some and eat them for me.

Ooh!!! Send me some! Nothing fun ever drops into our yard, but if we ever catch that rabbit we've been chasing, I'll be sure to make you some ear muffs. :)

That's great! Think of all the possibilities! I wonder if you could preserve/can them somehow for later...? I don't know...

Yummy. Whenever my kids start to miss my parents house in TX that is one of the things they always say they miss, their pecan tree in the back yard. They used to sit forever shelling and eating.

There is an advantage to having neighbors! (J/K, partly ours always throws loud parties)I am a pecan lover too, of course i am not a baker I would just probably eat them by the handfuls. I think you should do the "kissing post" it would be fun to see who others would chose.
